Lithograph with a scene of abduction of the bride, hand-signed artist's proof, circa 1970s-80s.
Large format, measures approx. 19 ½" x 15 ¾", image size 15 ½" x 11 ½". This is a print from the original lithograph, made by the artist and hand-signed by him. The handwritten signature is in the lower right-hand corner under the image. Unfortunately, the signature is too vague to venture a guess about the name of the artist and provide more information about him.
In good condition. The image has a few tiny scuffs on the horse's body. By far the largest of them is in one of our photos next to a penny to give you an idea of its true size. There is also a faint trace of somet

In good condition. The image has a few tiny scuffs on the horse's body. By far the largest of them is in one of our photos next to a penny to give you an idea of its true size. There is also a faint trace of something hard-pressed into the paper between the groom's hat and the right- most flower but it is not easy to see and is not really detractive. The paper is moderately age toned. There is a lighter strip on the right side where the lithograph must have been inserted into an album or some holder. There are also some fingerprint stains, mostly on the left side of the top edge. Those are to be expected on an original work handled by the artist. The verso is clean and moderately age-toned. There are faint traces of what was probably loops made of scotch tape to affix the lithograph to a backing.
Abduction of the bride is an ages-old tradition in the Caucasus. It started as a rather barbaric action, often resulting in tragedy, but by the
20th century it was mostly for show, homage to an ancient tradition done with agreement and permission of the bride's parents and the bride
herself.
