Russian Marshal Zhukov Centenary Medal, 1996 issue.

In brass and measures 35 mm wide. The obverse features portrait of Georgiy Zhukov in WW2 "Victory Parade" uniform and inscription "Marshal of the Soviet Union Zhukov". The reverse says: "Great Son of the Soviet People 1896-1996". The medal is in excellent condition.

This is one of the "alternative medals" issued by the Communist-run Congress of People's Deputies of the USSR - legislative body of the Soviet Union that continued to operate for years after the Soviet Union's collapse! In Russian, they are referred to as "Umalatovskie" medals after the name of the Chairwoman of the "

Naturally, these medals were never approved by the President of Russia and therefore never became a part of the official award system of modern Russia. Recently, they were completely banned and are now becoming pretty scarce.
