Very good to excellent condition. The fur is overall well-preserved and sound, not shedding. There are minor losses of fur along the edges of the flaps and to a lesser degree, on the back at the top edge, but there are no significant bare spots anywhere and the hat will display beautifully. Its exterior is perfectly clean, while the liner shows just a very minimal amount of soiling and wear.
This type of hat was used very infrequently and allowed by the uniform code to be worn only in very cold weather, so it's far less common than the typical Soviet general's tall papakha in Astrakhan fur. The Astrakhan fur ushankas were also reportedly favored by generals of VDV Airborne troops.
