The Bolotin Glass Factory was founded in the village of Klyuchino, Tver Region, by the family of merchants, Bolotin by name, in 1859. It was one of the best glass factories of its time specializing in one of the most difficult and time-consuming technologies - colored glass and two- and three-layer glass.
In 1920, the factory was nationalized and in 1923, renamed to Krasnyj May ("Red May"). Even the village itself was renamed "Krasnomajskoye". Its signature technological achievement was the use of zinc sulfide glass, very rich in color which also changed in tone and
intensity depending on the temperature and duration of blowing. This technology was put in production in 1959, and the factory was the only one in the world to use it. Unfortunately, the factory is now closed.
