It was minted in 1967 at the Leningrad Mint (unlike the similar Police 60th Anniversary Medal that would be struck at the Moscow Mint ten years later). There were 4309 in circulation, all apparently awarded to senior command of MVD and selected VIP retirees (during the same year, there was a large number of badges and lesser quality medals of various designs produced by local makers and presented to police officers in a number of Soviet republics and regional MVD offices to commemorate the anniversary.)
