All-Union Agricultural Exhibition Cigarette Case featuring a view of the main building of the famous VSKhV fairgrounds in Moscow, circa late 1950s.

The cigarette case is in outstanding, excellent condition. It shows none of the usual wear to the high points or the rust spots. The closure button functions smoothly. Someone - most likely the original owner - has inscribed the date "VI 1945" on the inside in an inconspicuous spot near the hinge; this is probably the date of a visit to Moscow rather than the exhibition itself: the fairgrounds closed immediately after the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 and only reopened long after the war in the early 50s (in the later part of the decade during the Khrushchev's reign, the scope of the exhibition was greatly expanded and it became known by the acronym VDNKh - i.e. Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy of the USSR). There are also small initials "Sh K" on the inside of the panel with the building.

The exhibition grounds are still open to the public today and visiting them is truly like being in a time machine; if you are a souvenir hunter, however, you'll find that there's not much there to buy that's related to the exhibition. If you've been there, this case would make a perfect memento.
