Brass, enamels; 46.5 x 38.0 mm; weighs 16.2 g not including the screw plate. This is the first type of the Cook badge featuring very tall top ornament consisting of 5 scrolls of varying size. Manufactured by the NKPS Factory.

In outstanding, excellent condition - absolutely extraordinary for any "combat proficiency" badge of WW2 type and almost unprecedented for one as scarce as Excellent Cook. The enamel shows beautiful luster throughout and appears perfect to the unaided eye. With a 10x loupe, one can find only a few contact marks totally unnoticeable without magnification, but none of the usual flaking, rubbing or significant scratches.

The details of the wreath and field kitchen are likewise perfect and exceptionally crisp; the original gilt is pristine, and so is the fragile grey finish along the edge of the shield. The silver finish on the reverse is also essentially perfect. The screw post is full length, approx. 12 mm, and comes with original pre-1946 screw plate marked "ShMZ NKPS" which is just as well preserved as the rest of the badge. This is a truly astonishing piece - by far the best Excellent Cook badge we've handled in recent years and in our opinion, impossible to upgrade!
