Brass gilt, silver plating; 32.1 mm wide; weighs 16.5 g not including the suspension and connecting link. Excellent condition. The silver and gilt finish are nicely preserved and bright. Both sides of the medallion show only minimal tarnish that adds character, no blemishes or significant oxidation. Includes well-preserved old ribbon.
MOOP stands for Ministry of Protecting the Public Order, a temporary substitute for MVD during the 60s. This particular variation of the MOOP medal was issued by the Ukrainian MOOP. Curiously, only in the Ukraine MOOP medals did not

temporary substitute for MVD during the 60s. This particular
variation of the MOOP medal was issued by the Ukrainian
MOOP. Curiously, only in the Ukraine MOOP medals did not
have a designation for the republic, which in the past had
led many to mistakenly believe that these were medals of the
"all-Union" MOOP of 1966-68 period (in reality, the only
MOOP medals were from the "republican" series). In 1968, the
law enforcement ministry of the Soviet Union re-acquired its
old name MVD, and the MOOP medals were never issued after
that.
