Aluminum, paint, 20.8 x 31.8 mm. Maker marked ЗХГ ("ZKhG", early version of the logo of the Artistic Engraving Factory in Moscow) on the reverse. Excellent condition.

The Norwegian Spitzbergen Island (aka Svalbard) has some of the most norther permanent settlements in the world and probably the northernmost ongoing mining operation. Soviet government had its own coal mining concession and couple of "showcase" mining towns there. Most of the Russian mines have now been closed down, although limited operations still continue and a small Russian settlement remains
