Badge of Outstanding Animal Ranger, circa 1950s.
Brass, enamels; 42.8 x 36.1 mm. Features heavy construction typical for its period of manufacture. The enamel and overall quality are superb. Like nearly all high level Mongolian awards of the era, this badge was made in the Soviet Union. This version of the badge features violet blue color of the sky, as opposed to turquoise of the other variation of the same badge. The enamel is also of somewhat finer quality.
In excellent condition, absolutely extraordinary for this badge. Aside from a few microscopic scuffs and contact marks that are invisible to the naked ey

In excellent condition, absolutely extraordinary for this badge. Aside from a few microscopic scuffs and contact marks that are invisible to the naked eye, the enamel is perfect. The details of the horseman, horse, and wreath are likewise perfect and crisp, and significant amount of the original gilt finish is still intact - a very unusual case. The gilt on the reverse is practically perfect. The screw post measures over 16 mm long, has not been shortened. Comes with original screw plate showing faint markings of the Moscow Artists Cooperative. This beautiful piece is probably the best example of the Ranger badge we have ever seen.
The badge was awarded specifically for the herding of horses, which sets it apart from many other, general purpose Mongolian awards for animal herding.
