In brass ("light bronze"), 26.2 mm wide. The obverse shows a female figure representing Russia holding a flag with the date "March 1st" and shield showing the year of 1917. The lady is in finer detail and more pronounced relief than some of the similar contemporary jetons of the same general design. There is an inscription "Free Russia" in the upper part. The reverse has rising sun and motto "Freedom, Equality and Fraternity" - a refrain borrowed from the French Revolution

In excellent condition, far better than average for jettons of the Provisional Government

In excellent condition, far better than average for jettons of the Provisional Government period. The raised details are extremely well defined and crisp, show practically no wear. There are only a few tiny blemishes; the toning is nice and even overall. The edge is free of bumps, dents or any other significant wear. A very attractive example.

There are several known versions of this "Liberty" jetton slightly varying in details. The version with the specific date on the flag is quite uncommon. It may indicate that the Jetton is from Moscow, to which rebellion had spread by 1 March 1917 (or 14 March according to modern Gregorian calendar.)
