Excellent Border Guard badge, Type 1, #886, 1930s-40s.
Silver-plated and gilded brass, enamels. Measures 39.0 mm in height, 39.3 mm in width. Stamped serial number to the reverse. Manufactured by the Moscow Artists Cooperative. Shows typical heavy and somewhat crude construction, with nice enamelwork.
In fair to good overall condition. There are chips to the green enamel in all four corners of the square. The turquoise enamel in the center is perfect. The red enamel on the banner has a chipped area under the upper edge but most of it is intact, still shows nice luster. The figure of the soldier shows light wear to the highest points

The figure of the soldier shows light wear to the highest points only, well preserved overall (even the binoculars he is holding are recognizable). Most of the original silver finish on the reverse is still present. The screw post is full length, over 13 mm. Includes original screw plate maker marked "Moscow Artists Cooperative".
