Service Uniform of a Colonel General, Land Forces, includes tunic and matching pair of breeches, early 80s.

The double-breasted dress tunic is in heavy napped olive drab wool with red piping. The red piped shoulder boards are silk brocade with gold bullion stars. The anodized gilt buttons with the State Emblem of the USSR show the 1978 date on the back which indicates that the uniform was tailored during that or the following few years. Fine quality silk liner. There is a sewn-in tag of a tailor shop of the Ministry of Defense on the lining of the inside pocket.

The ribbon bars are headed by an Order of the Red Star and Order for Service to Homeland, 3rd cl., an assort

Fine quality silk liner. There is a sewn-in tag of a tailor shop of the Ministry of Defense on the lining of the inside pocket.

The ribbon bars are headed by an Order of the Red Star and Order for Service to Homeland, 3rd cl., an assortment of service and jubilee medals including Border Guard and Combat Cooperation medals. It is interesting to see an unusually large number of ribbons for various foreign awards that appear in the last four rows. Note also that the all three Soviet long service medals are present indicating that the general apparently entered military service at some point after mid 1940s. Sleeve length is 26" from seam to cuff, chest 46".

The breeches are in olive drab material of a shade that is just a notch lighter than tunic (the difference is almost unnoticeable under normal lighting conditions), with two broad red stripes as correct for general ranks. The breeches have a 39" waist and a 29" inseam, total length a 42". Interestingly, there is sufficient fabric along both sides of the center seam that the waist could be let out at least an inch or two. Each leg has an almost pristine adjustable tab at the end to hold it firmly inside a boot.

The whole ensemble is in very good condition. There is no moth damage or heavy wear anywhere. The tunic has some stains on the back near the bottom that won't be very noticeable when the uniform is on display (we never tried to dry clean it). The front of the tunic is perfect, and there is no soiling to the neck or the liner. The breeches are practically pristine.

Please note, the set includes double breasted tunic and breeches only; the shirt, tie, belt and other items shown in our photos are not included but may be available for purchase separately.
