Badge in Commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of the Sarkanais Kvadrāts Rubber Goods Factory, Riga, Latvian SSR, 1984.

Aluminum, paint, lacquer; 34.0 x 27.0 mm. Shows the Order of the Red Banner of Labor awarded to the enterprise in 1976 for outstanding achievements. Excellent condition.

The company was founded in 1924 during the period of Latvian interwar independence, and was financed by foreign, mostly Dutch capital. Its original name of Baltic Indian Rubber Company Kvadrats was changed to the Sarkanais Kvadrāts (The Red Square) once the factory was nationalized immediately following the Soviet occupation of Latvia in 1940. Its main production was rubber footwear such as galoshes, rubber boots and flip-flops, but it also produced a wide assortment of other rubber goods such as children's toys and industrial products. The company was privatized after the collapse of the USSR and broken up into four different firms, one of which retained the original name Kvadrats and went bankrupt in 1999.
