Medal for the Defense of Leningrad, Variation 1, 1940s issue.

Iin brass; measures 37.5 mm in height incl. eyelet, 32.1 mm wide; weighs 16.8 g not including the suspension and connecting link. Late sub- variation of the Variation 1 featuring a "long" horizon.

In outstanding, excellent condition. The raised details of the artwork and lettering are perfect and exceptionally crisp. Both sides are practically free of wear with the exception of some miniscule contact marks on the reverse that are nearly invisible to the unaided eye. There are no edge bumps. The original "gilt" mint luster is extremely well-preserved and bright in recessed areas throughout; there is only a few tiny spots on the obverse and light patina that adds character.

Comes on an original WW2 era suspension, a two-layer model in brass with a self-locking pin. The ribbon is old, possibly original to the medal; although slightly faded, it remains clean and sound, adding a tremendous amount of personality to the medal. The connecting link has been cut but appears to be original or at least of the period. Overall, an outstanding example of the Variation 1 Leningrad Medal!
