These pilotkas are currently made in Russia using the same machinery and methods as the Soviet originals. The fabric of the outer shell is also very similar to what was used during the Soviet era, appears to be either 100% cotton or at least mostly cotton with minimal amount of synthetic additive. The 100% cotton liner is correct and just like the originals, it has a sweat band in ersatz leather. The stitching is of good quality, sound and true - not like typical cheap copies coming from China or Pakistan. The manufacturer even put some faint convincing looking "Soviet" factory stamps on the liner to make this pilotka look like one made in USSR in the 80s. The pilotka comes complete with correct, ORIGINAL aluminum hat badge from the Soviet era. Please note that the pilotka will be shipped with the badge already attached (it can be easily removed and put back on the cap as desired, since it has bendable attachment prongs.)
This copy is distinguishable from the true Soviet piece only at close inspection, and only to a trained eye. It is in fact so well-made that it will easily fool most people, and we are now seeing them offered for sale as originals (the sellers usually avoid showing the inside of the pilotka).
