Excellent Road Builder badge, by the NKPS factory, circa mid-1940s.
Brass, enamels; 46.0 x 38.5 mm; weighs 17.09 g without the screw plate. This is the first version of the badge almost for sure manufactured and issued during the war. It features a wide overall shape with a large "luxuriant" wreath that is visibly asymmetrical: its left and right sides are noticeably different. The center medallion is highly domed. There is a pattern of stars under the red enamel on the center medallion and vertical dashes under the red enamel in the lower portion of the badge.
In very fine to excellent condition, far better than the average for a combat pro

In very fine to excellent condition, far better than the average for a combat proficiency badge of WW2 era. There is a single tiny, very thin chip to the red enamel immediately below the center medallion, nearly unnoticeable to the naked eye and quite possibly a manufacturing imperfection raht than the result of wear. The enamel elsewhere has only some minuscule contact marks that are practically unnoticeable to the naked eye, no chips, flaking or any other significant wear. Details of the artwork are perfect and exceptionally crisp. A good amount of the original silver finish is present on the edge of the shield and recessed areas of the wreath and bridge. The screw post is full-length, nearly 13 mm, and includes an original WW2-era screw plate maker-marked "ShMZ - NKPS".
To summarize, a beautiful wartime example of the Road Builder Badge, hard to find in this condition.
