"Medals of the Russian Empire, Part 7, 1894-1917", Mikhail Diakov, C 2007.

"Medals of the Russian Empire, Part 7, 1894-1917", Mikhail Diakov, C 2007. Large format, 9" x 12.5" x 1". The probably the most eagerly anticipated volume in the series of catalogues by Mikhail Diakov, a highly respected expert and collector. Condition is new.

An unprecedented and exhaustive presentation of the entire production of the St. Petersburg Mint (other than coins) during the reign of the Last Tsar, Nicholas II. Remarkably sharp and informative photos are accompanied by an enormous quantity of information about each specimen, including group number and name, date. Everything is completely cross-referenced to well-known catalogues.

The names of the engravers, diameters, imprints, inscriptions, are all itemized here in both English and in Russian. Other relevant characteristics are also included such as clear close-ups of significant medal details that can help the collector determine authenticity. For easier search, the author offers an alphabetical index and translation of Russian and Latin legends.

An outstanding and extremely innovative study, presented from a numismatist's viewpoint and outshining each and every earlier publication on the subject. While the entire seven part series will most certainly become the ultimate reference for dedicated collectors, this one volume is worth owning by itself simply because it covers the St. Petersburg Mint's most prolific period of medal production during the entire Imperial Era.

Content mint. Binding is tight. The laminated cover appears shop worn with light scuffs and a few light scratches. Integral silk bookmark.
