Honored Railway Employee Badge, circa early- to mid-1990s.
Gilded brass, lacquer, hot baked and "cold" enamels. The
pendant measures 46.6 mm in height including the eyelet),
32.1 mm in width. The reverse has raised logo MMD of the
Moscow Mint (near the catch of the pin). The quality of the
badge is typical of Soviet mint manufacture, although it is
not as elaborate as the earlier, 3-piece version of the same
In excellent, near mint condition. The enamels and gold
finish are flawless.
The design of the badge is clearly inspired by the Soviet
badge of Honored Railway Employee. Curiously, this piece was
manufactured after the breakup of the USSR and fall of
Communism in Russia, but while Mongolia was still in
transitional period. Hence, this badge made in post-Soviet
Russia on commission from Mongolian government still
features communist era national flag with Soembo emblem and
inscription in Cyrillic script.
