OAVUK (Society of Aviation and Aeronautics of Ukraine and
Crimea), membership badge, Type 2, 1923-1924.
In brass and enamels; 30.2 mm wide x 30.2 mm tall. Second,
single-piece version of the badge. The enamels are of
exquisite quality, extremely attractive and well executed.
In outstanding, excellent condition - very rare for a badge
of this vintage. The enamel is perfect for all intents and
purposes, although close examination under 10x magnification
will reveal a couple of tiny contact marks. The details are
perfect. Much of the original silver finish on the reverse
of the badge is present. The flower shaped screw nut is of
the period and probably original to the badge. The screw
post is full length, approx. 10 mm.
The OAVUK society existed for only about a year between 1923
and 1924. Unlike the ODVF chapters in various regions of
RSFSR and other Soviet republics, this Ukrainian
organization operated under its own name and apparently
enjoyed a certain degree of autonomy until the 1924 merger
into the all-union ODVF.
