Order of Soldier's Honor, 2nd class, Type 1, circa early
Silver gilt, enamels, measures 49.3 mm in height x 47.3 mm
in width; weighs 34.7 grams not including the screw plate.
This beautiful Type 1 piece is in solid silver and shows the
trademark quality of the Soviet mint manufacture. Like most
early DPRK orders manufactured in the Soviet Union, this is
probably an award of the Korean War era.
In excellent condition. The enamel is extremely well
preserved and has nice luster; shows only a couple of
microscopic contact marks but no wear visible to the naked
eye. The details of the center medallion and wreath are
exceptionally crisp; the original gold plating on the wreath
and edges of the shield is still present and clearly
visible. There are a few minor scratches to the center and
edges of the shield, but they are not very noticeable
without magnification. The screw post if full length,
approx. 14 mm.
Design of this order was obviously inspired by the Soviet
Order of Patriotic War. Established in 1950, it was awarded
exclusively by DPRK Supreme People's Assembly Standing
Committee to guerrilla unit members and People's Army
soldiers for combat valor.
