Document for a Capture of Koenigsberg Medal, issued on 31 December 1945 to Private Pyotr Khlebnikov.
Note the very early date of issue: most capture and liberation medal documents were issued later, in 1946 and the following years. The document shows stamp of the 110th Rifle Division and is hand-signed by its commander, Col. Mezhevoy.
In very good condition. The cover is "tanned" and shows light soiling along the edges and spots from rusted staples from the back (note of it is really detractive.) The internal pages are very clean and the text is clearly legible. There are no tears or excessive wear.
The 3rd formation of this regiment was activated in 1943 just in time for the Battle of Kursk, in which it took part under the 61st Army, Bryansk Front. It crossed the Zhizdra River during the counteroffensive at Smolensk and later, crossed the Desna River and was among the first Soviet units to reach Belorussia. In 1945, the division under the 50th Army took part in the actual storming of the city of Koenigsberg and captured one of its major forts, Fort #3 "King Frederic III" as well as the smaller Fort #2A.
