Portrait of Lenin, marquetry inlay in hardwood veneer on
plywood, circa 1970s-80s.
Measures approx. 9" tall, nearly 8" wide in its widest
cross-section. The inlay is of very professional quality.
The artwork is a standard, officially-approved image, the
way Lenin was portrayed in Soviet art of 1970s-80s period.
There is an integral support at the bottom for display on a
desktop. The bottom part is inscribed "To Vladimir
Stepanovich Kuznetsov, a veteran of Lenin Komsomol on the
day of (his) 80th jubilee, Central District Committee of
VLKSM". Judging by the inscription, the recipient was
apparently a devoted Communist Party member and one of the
early members of the Communist Youth organization, very
likely a participant of the 1917 Revolution and Russian
Civil War.
In very good overall condition. The portrait inlay itself is
completely intact, while some of the surrounding veneer
shows just minor imperfections along the edges, visible only
at close inspection. The back side is relatively well
preserved as well having some warping and barely noticeable
craqueleure. At some point, a piece of paper was glued to
the bottom of the stand to protect the surface of the desk.
Please note, medal in our photo is for size reference.
