Order of the Star, 2nd class, Type 2, 1987-1992.
Nickel silver alloy, gilt; measures 55.0 mm wide, weighs
19.3 g not including the suspension and connecting link.
Gilded center medallion features 2nd version of the national
emblem of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. Shows
single, stamped Dari character "2" (for the second class) on
Excellent condition. The details are perfect, the gilt
finish completely intact and bright. Attractive toning to
the arms and reverse. There are only minor dings, mostly on
the reverse. Comes on original Soviet suspension device with
a scarce correct ribbon in brand new condition. The
connecting link is original and has not been cut.
Established in 1980 and awarded for valor on the
battlefield, mostly to Afghans, although few are known to
have been issued to Russian advisers and other foreigners.
The award was sequential: one had to be awarded with the
third class of this order to become eligible to the second
class. This requirement and the overall style of decoration
make it very similar to the Soviet Order of Glory. /See
