Paratrooper Hemet, dated 1953.
Light weight model in olive green cotton, with black liner and black leather straps. The sewn-in silk label of a Moscow factory shows the 1953 date of manufacture and stamped size 57.
In excellent unissued condition. The exterior shell shows only a couple of light stains from storage, otherwise mint. All the adjustment straps and hardware present, although the two snap buttons are stuck in closed position due to corrosion (the rust is not visible from the outside, and we wouldn't risk to try and undo the buttons as this may rip the surrounding fabric). The liner is pristine.
This is the first post-war version of the Soviet Airborne (VDV) Spetznaz jump helmet which came immediately after the wartime version in leather. The year of 1953 was reportedly the first year of manufacture for this model. A very uncommon early Cold War piece of headgear for the elite Soviet airborne troops.
