The medal is in excellent condition. There are no chips, nicks, scuffs or scratches visible to the naked eye. Mild patina in the recessed areas accents the 3D relief of the artwork. The box shows mild wear to the corners, not too noticeable. It is structurally sound, the bronze hinges are tight, the ornamental bronze latch is in perfect working order.

The sculptor of the monument, Otakar Svec, killed himself just days before the unveiling. The 51-foot (15.5m) statue of Stalin was the largest in the world.

The unveiling of the monument happened shortly before the process of de-Stalinization spread from the Soviet Union to its satellite Eastern European countries. In 1962, by order of the Soviet government, the monument was demolished with 1,800 lbs (800 kg) of explosives.
