Measures approx. 12" x 9", 262 pp., published by the Soviet Russia Publishers, Moscow. Russian text. Circulation 50,000, a mere pittance by Soviet standards. Cloth-bound hard cover, comes in its original dust jacket. A luxury edition printed on heavy-stock semi-gloss coated paper, heavily illustrated with lithographs, paintings, drawings, contemporary and modern photos, facsimiles and poetry, all painting an abundantly detailed portrait of the revolt, its organizers, participants, their wives and families. This attempted coup d'état in St. Petersburg was organized by a group of Russian nobility, many of whom were officers of the Russian Army, aimed against the oppression of the totalitarian czarist regime. The revolt was quickly and efficiently suppressed, its 5 core organizers sentenced to death and executed by hanging, other participants were sentenced either to a prison term or to exile, in Siberia. The book covers the events of the revolt, execution of its main organizers as well as the long history of its survivors exiled to various Siberian prison camps, towns or villages. Some of the survivors' wives followed their husbands to Siberia. The book abounds in illustrations, mostly portraits and drawings but also modern photos of the prison cells and houses where they lived out their sentences. For someone who lived in the Soviet Union, these houses and even jail cells may look quite alluring as far as living quarters go but the exiles had something much better to compare them to, and their suffering is reflected in this book.

The book is in very good to excellent condition. The only wear is to the dust jacket, and even that is not too extensive and is easily repairable if desired, just a few small rips, mostly at the head and foot of the spine. The book itself is practically in mint condition, no wear or damage of any kind visible to the naked eye.

Overall, this is a most fascinating opportunity to look into this page of Russian history not superficially but with a magnifying glass!
