"Transferrable" award banner for best results in socialist competition, circa 1970s-80s.
Measures 56" x 40". The artwork is professionally printed on scarlet-red silk. Two-layer construction allows to avoid see-through of the verbiage and graphics. The obverse features the USSR State Emblem soaring above a wreath of oak leaves and wheat stalks. The not very laconic motto under the emblem reads "Under the banner of Marxism-Leninism, under the guidance of the Communist Party - forward, toward the victory of Communism!". The writing on the reverse starts with the inevitable "Proletarians of all countries, unite!" but then, finally, turns more specific, reading "Transferrable B

The banner is in very good condition. The background silk shows no fading and only minimal storage and use wear (some faint staining, some of it left from inaccurate application of the primer which was put under the lettering and is seen as a darker red background) but no holes, rips or any other significant damage. The fringe is completely intact, its color strong and not faded.
The banner was issued as an inspirational prize to a labor team for best results in one of the Socialist Competitions set up among different Soviet industries and teams of workers. Those that won a competition were given the presentation banners such as this one in addition to monetary rewards and various special benefits.
This historical banner can be a unique backdrop for a Soviet collection and serve as a great conversation piece.
