Badge of an Activist of the Society of Militant Atheists,
Brass, silver plating, enamels. The pendant measures 46.9 mm
in height (incl. eyelet), 27.6 mm in width; overall height
with suspension is approx. 57 mm; weighs 8.7 g with
suspension not including the screw plate.
In excellent condition. The red enamel on the pendant fully
retains nice original luster and is essentially pristine
with the exception of a couple of tiny surface scratches
almost unnoticeable to the naked eye. The enamel on the red
star has a few microscopic hairlines, likewise practically
invisible without magnification, otherwise perfect. The
white enamel on the letters is perfect. The silver plating
is extremely well-preserved on both sides of the badge. The
screw post is over 9 mm long - has not been reduced - and
includes original screw plate maker marked "Moscow Artists
This badge was the highest award of the Society of Militant
Atheists, and it is far more scarce than the membership
badges of the organization. It is especially hard to find
one in condition as good as our example. This is a truly
outstanding and interesting piece!
