Order of Labor, Type 1, #926, 1950s issue.
Silver gilt, enamels; 54.0 x 47.5 mm; weighs 49.5 g. Massive
construction and magnificent quality are typical of the
Soviet mint production of the period.
In very fine condition. The enamel is well preserved
overall. There are some deep scratches on the banner but no
chips or significant flaking. The red enamel on the scrolls
near the bottom has only microscopic contact marks, no
significant wear.
The enamel still retains its impressive appearance and
luster. The original gold finish is very bright, practically
perfect on both the wreath and center medallion. There are
some minor dings and scratches to the outer ring of the
medallion, but the raised details of the bas-relief are
extremely well-preserved and crisp. The screw post is full
length, approx. 14 mm. Original screw plate is included.
The North Korean Order of Labor was established in 1951.
This Soviet-inspired - and possibly Soviet designed -
decoration was drastically changed in the 60s or 70s for a
more bland traditional look. The early, Soviet-made pieces
are extremely scarce.
