Militia Volunteer in Uniform C 1914.
Sized 3 3/8" by 5 3/8". Solder wears militia cross directly
over the cockade on his cap. His belt is regulation issue for
Imperial Russian Army. His medal cannot be identified but is
held in place by a large safety pin. Postcard printed reverse;
penciled notation in English "WW I Russian Volunteer with
Excellent condition. One or two corners slightly bumped but
surfaces are pristine.
The lack of a studio designation would tend to indicate that
this photo was taken by a photographer working away from urban
areas of the empire; that said, the placing of two books on
the table was probably done to suggest that the soldier could
read and write.
