Two letter-size pages, front only, typed text. The document was compiled by Lt. Col. I. Makarenko to explain his actions and whereabouts during the catastrophic encirclement at Kiev of the Soviet South-Western Front in September of 1941.

In very good to excellent condition. Minor wrinkles at the bottom of the pages and small corner bumps and creases are insignificant and not detractive. The text, seal and signatures are vibrantly crisp and perfectly legible.

In September 1941 then Pvt. I. Makarenko, a sr. scribe with the South-Western Front Personnel Department, got into German encirclement while transporting blank Human Resources forms in a truck. He survived several aerial attacks and bombardments, fought through two ambushes, lost his truck in enemy fire, joined a large group of Soviet soldiers and officers in similar circumstances, and succeeded in escaping from the encirclement. He returned to the Personnel Department of the South-Western Front with his weapon and ID intact and resumed his duties.

He chose a military career and became an officer. And yet, Lt. Col. Makarenko had to explain himself eleven years later.
