Single page 8" x 11 ¼", front only. The document is a typed letter with birthday wishes to gen. German Malandin, apparently a friend of Petrov's judging by the warm personal tone of the letter. Petrov's signature is at the bottom of the typed text in blue ink.

The document is in excellent condition, typed on high-grade watermarked paper, the paper not showing any wrinkles or any other wear.

General of the Army (equivalent to US four-star general) Ivan Petrov (Иван Ефимович Петров, 1896 - 1958) was a Soviet military commander who fought in the Civil War and then WW2, Hero of the Soviet Union (1945). During WW2, commanded the 1st Cavalry Division in Odessa, 25th Chapaev Rifle Division, the Maritime Army. He commanded over the evacuation of the Soviet troops from Odessa and then the defense of Sevastopol. His last war-time post was Chief of Staff of the 1st Ukrainian Front. His highest active-duty post after the war was First Deputy Commander of the Land Forces of the USSR.
