Badge of a Shock-Worker of the Chollima Movement, early brass version, circa 1960s.

Badge of a Shock-Worker of the Chollima Movement, early brass version, circa 1960s.

Brass, paint; the medallion measures 34.0 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 29.8 mm in width. The obverse features mythical horse Chollima (or Chkhollima) which possessed supernatural powers. The inscription on the red scroll is "People's Group Chollima", referring to the DPRK workers movement that started during the 60s and was modeled from the Soviet Stakhanovite movement. The "People's Groups" were basic cells of the movement organized by locality (rather than the enterprise or industry as the Soviet counterpart.) The reverse has raised inscription "Movement of the People's Groups of Chollima of the Province" at the top and "Main Committee" at the bottom.

In very fine condition. The paint is nicely preserved, free of chips or flaking. The center medallion shows moderate wear to the raised points but most of its details are well-defined. Much of the original "gilt" mint luster is still present in recessed areas on both sides. The pin attachment is intact. An uncommon, relatively early piece.
