"Uniforms of the Russian Air Force, Volume 1 (1890 - 1943)".

"Uniforms of the Russian Air Force, Volume 1 (1890 - 1943)". A. Kibovsky, A. Stepanov, K. Tsyplenkov. C. 2012, Moscow. Russian text with English captions explaining illustrations and photos. Laminated hard cover with dust jacket, 459 pp. Large format: 12.5 " x 9.5 " x 1".

This of the new and revised first volume of what is now a two-volume set of books on Soviet and Russian air forces (the previous series by the same authors consisted of three books of smaller format). Volume One covers the Imperial Air Service, Air Force of the Provisional Government in 1917, Air Forces of the White Armies in Russian Civil War, and the Red Air Force through the first years of WW2 up to 1943. Its scope is very wide, from field gear to helmets, from insignia to badges of distinction. Of special interest are extensive quotes of official regulation manuals, as well as illustrations from the original uniform regulations. Close- up photos of badges and wings are in many cases accompanied by contemporary photos of airmen wearing the same.

The book is an extraordinary resource for the Russian uniform collector or the aviation historian. Moreover, because uniforms of aviators followed the same patterns as other services, and due to the fact that insignia and equipment often overlapped with other branches of the military, it is of great relevance to all collectors of Russian military uniforms - not just those who are interested solely in military aviation.

Much of factual information and photos shown in this book cannot be found in any other reference. Highly recommended!

The book is brand new. It has minor shelf wear to the cover and minimal corner bumps, otherwise in mint condition.
