Patriotic War of 1812 Centennial Medal, circa 1912.
State Mint issue in light bronze, 28.3 mm wide. Obverse
shows portrait of Emperor Alexander I. The quotation on the
reverse reads: "1812. This Glorious Year Went By, But the
Feats Undertaken in It Will Never Pass. 1912".
In very fine condition. There is even wear to the obverse,
apparently from cleaning; the details of the Emperor's bas-
relief are nevertheless very nicely defined. The reverse
shows practically no wear, and the letters are extremely
crisp. The edge is free of noticeable knocks or dings.
Attractive toning to the bronze on both sides (there is a
minor blemish to the obverse, far less noticeable in real
life than in our enlarged photos).
The medal was awarded in 1912 to all military and non-
military participants and organizers of the official
ceremonies and military parades marking the anniversary of
the victory over Napoleon.
