Pre-WW I Russian Cavalryman Wearing the Medal of the Swedish Order of Vasa.
Measures 2 5/8" by 4 3/8". K. F. Voshenko studio in St. Petersburg. Fashionable use of English on the front, "Visit Portrait". Plain back with oval rubber stamp mark identifies studio's name.
Excellent condition. Minor surface dirt comes from age rather than abuse.
High relief buttons bear Russian eagles. Crowned medal worn in middle of his chest is a medal attached to the Swedish Order of Vasa and given to given to enlisted men for merit. It would be interesting to find out how a Russian soldier qualified for it!
