Order of Merit of the Hungarian People's Republic, First
Version Fourth Class decoration with Authorization Card.
Awarded to Sz. P. Bazkakov on 1 May 1950.
Beautiful pin back 59mm Star with official 75mm x 105mm
authorization card named to "Sz. P. Bazkakov", obviously a
Founded 24 October 1949, the first presentation of the
various degrees of the Hungarian Order of Merit appears to
have been on May Day of 1950 - with a substantial number of
awards going to Soviet citizens. Generally speaking, as with
most European orders and medals manufactured post-WW II, the
earliest insignia tended to be much better made than that
manufactured post-1960. That said, there are two pinhead
sized blemishes on one of the arms of the star and we show
that area in our photographs. As is evident from our photos,
however, they do not detract from the striking, overall look
of the badge.
The various degrees of this Order were presented for less
than three years before being replaced by a single medal
(with a slightly simpler design) that eventually would
display the last version of the communist national coat of
arms in the center.
