Kremlin-themed Cigarette Box, birchwood and anodized aluminum, circa 1960.

1 3/8" x 4 3/4" x 3 3/8" It may or may not have been deliberate, but the quilted look on two of the aluminum sides and the bottom certainly evokes the appearance of one of the more famous buildings in the Kremlin complex: the famous "Faceted Chamber" of the Medieval Tsars.

Excellent condition. A very small section of paper or cardboard glued on the inside indicates to us that the bottom may have been originally lined with flocked paper to give it a finished look (something that could easily be redone if wished).

This box is a reminder of a bygone era, not just in the USSR but also in the rest of the world! Hard as it may seem to believe today, there was a time when folks always kept boxes like this filled with cigarettes on their desks. No home was ready for a social gathering unless the hostess had already planted containers full of complementary smokes in every room of her house.

Today, this would make a perfect container for keeping track of your cell phone.
