In outstanding, excellent condition. The enamel is essentially perfect, free of any damage or wear visible to the naked eye. There are a few microscopic contact marks on the red banner, but they are completely unnoticeable without magnification. The silver plating on the cavalryman and horse is extremely well preserved and shows only miniscule amount of wear on the high points of the rider - an very unusual case. The reverse is likewise nearly pristine and shows beautiful toning. The screw post is full length, approx. 15 mm. Original mint marked screw plate is included (note that the screw plate is made of silver-plated brass but otherwise is of the same design as was used on the Hero Stars). All-in-all, this is an outstanding example of the Khalkhin Gol Badge.

Awarded for participation in the 1939 battle against the Japanese Kwantung Army in Manchuria, this badge was later upgraded in rank to be considered a medal. The flat back variation was issued mostly to Mongolian troops and also to some of the Soviets who had not received the badge earlier. According to the research by Khuujii, the date of manufacture for all Variation 2 badges is 1946 and only 5504 in total were produced.
