Aluminum, lacquer, 60.3 mm wide. Maker mark to the reverse. Excellent condition. The lacquer finish is extremely well preserved, shows practically no wear. The catch and pin are intact.
Although exact history of this badge is unknown, it was probably introduced in 1973 at the same time as the much more common Border Patrol commander's "shield". Possibly, designed to wear on a field uniform or outer garment. This relatively scarce badge is shown in the "Badges of Military Valor" by A. Domank (fig. 180).
