Exceptionally large and massive: measures appox. 12 ¼" in height, 6 ½" wide at the top; weighs full 9 lb. Neatly incorporated into the conventional cut glass design are the etched Komsomol emblem with Lenin's portrait and the six decorations bestowed upon the organization over the years: Order of the Red Banner, Order of the Red Banner of Labor, three Orders of Lenin, and Order of the October Revolution. The latter was awarded to the VLKSM in 1968, which is thus the earliest possible year of production of the vase. It is noteworthy that the etchings were done in a specially provided flat section in the upper part of the vase, so the vase was created with this sole purpose in mind. Its design however is very traditional otherwise and less "business-like" than one might expect of a purely propaganda item.

The vase is in excellent condition. It is completely free of cracks, chips or other noticeable wear.

This superb piece is a fine example of Communist Paradise luxury available to the few who were "more equal than others". Undoubtedly, it once decorated an important office or apartment of a high-ranking Communist Party or VLSKM apparatchik. Although bearing a political message, the vase also served as a fine decorative item clearly indicating a uniquely elevated social status of its owner.

Few examples of such "dual purpose" Soviet art are to be found these days - especially of quality and magnificence even approaching this piece. We certainly have not handled another propaganda crystal vase as massive as this one in all the decades of doing business. This piece can be a truly unique focus point of the advanced Soviet collection - and almost needless to say, a splendid home décor accent in its own right!
