Medal for Irreproachable Service in MVD of Lithuanian SSR, 2nd class (for 15 years of service), 1960-62.

Brass gilt, silver plating; 32.1 mm wide; weighs 16.5 g not including the suspension and connecting link. In excellent condition. The gilt and silver finishes are essentially perfect showing only tiny amount of tarnish, no blemishes. There are a couple of tiny dings to the raised edge on the reverse in approx. 7 to 8 O'clock segment, but no significant wear.

This medal is one of the few MVD awards specific to a republic issued for only a short time in the early 60s, when each republic in the Soviet Union had its own, "independent" MVD. Only five Soviet republics

This medal is one of the few MVD awards specific to a republic issued for only a short time in the early 60s, when each republic in the Soviet Union had its own, "independent" MVD. Only five Soviet republics including Lithuania actually issued the "republican" MVD medals, although 14 out of 15 had their own MOOP medals later on, in 1962-66. Due probably to the relatively small population of the republic, the Lithuanian medals are among the rarest of all in the "republican" MVD / MOOP series. It is also interesting to note that unlike most other Soviet republics, Lithuanian SSR was unique in the way that it had a "complete" set of all six MOOP and MVD medals (the other republics had at most only four out of possible six.)
