In brass, 28.2 mm wide. The obverse features portrait of Emperor Alexander II and inscription "By the Grade of God Alexander II Emperor and Autocrat of All Russia, 1878, Tsar Liberator" The reverse has Eastern Orthodox cross and inscription "In Commemoration of the Liberation of Bulgarian Brothers. They that Sow in Tears shall Reap in Joy" [Psalms 126:5].

In fine condition. There is moderate wear to the high points of the bas-relief and heavy wear to the lower portion of the inscription on the obverse, but the details are overall well-defined and inscription c

There are no bumps, nicks or significant dings. The details of the reverse show much less wear. The obverse has very nice even toning while there are some blemishes on the reverse, not very detractive.

/This piece is nearly identical in design to the jetton by the engraver Pikkel struck at the Mint in 1878 which is shown in "Medals of the Russian Empire, Part 5, 1855- 1881" and referred to as award medal/
