"Marks on Soviet Porcelain, Faience, and Majolica, 1917-
1991" I Nasonova, S Nasonov, I Golskii, and G Dvorkin,
2009, Moscow, Russian text. Two cloth covered volumes in
slipcase. Hard cover w/dust jacket and integral silk
bookmark, small format (6" x 8 ¼" pages), two volumes total
over 600pp, full color photographs.
Instead of one bulky, awkward to carry book, the authors
produced two separate volumes, making this a much more
convenient reference for everyone to use. Volume 1 is 287pp
in length and Volume 2 is 319pp. It goes without saying that
appearing in two sections will geometrically increase the
lifespan of the bindings.
Volume One is undoubtedly the single most comprehensive
survey ever produced of the identifying marks applied to
ceramics during the Soviet era, and, in spite of the
title, also provides excellent coverage of many post-Soviet
ceramic manufacturers, too! The most important feature
of Volume Two are the company by company histories of all of
the manufacturing enterprises identified in Volume One!
Well thought out and clearly organized! This book is the
perfect complement to the Nasonov "Soviet Porcelain" series.
Highly recommended.
