Medal for the Capture of Vienna, Variation 3, 1960s-80s.
Medal for the Capture of Vienna, Variation 3, 1960s-80s.
In brass, 32.0 mm wide; weighs 15.8 g not including the suspension and connecting link. In excellent, near mint condition. The medal is completely free of even the tiniest contact marks; there are literally no signs of wear visible to the naked eye. The "gilt" mint luster is extremely bright and essentially pristine having only a single miniscule area of light tarnish on the reverse at the edge at approximately 10 o'clock - very faint and barely noticeable. Comes on original aluminum suspension with well-preserved old ribbon.
For unknown reasons, Variation 3 of Medal for the Capture of Vienna is far scarcer than either Var. 1 or 2 of the same award. It also happens to be one of the hardest to find among the "Voenkomat" series of Soviet WW2 campaign medals.
