Fire retardant inner communications helmet worn with the
GSh-6A High Altitude Pressure Helmet, dated 1979.
Introduced in 1962 for use inside the iconic white "bone
dome" worn by MIG fight pilots. Marked Size 3, will fit
about Size 59 head (US 7 3/8). Padded ear cups are leather
lined. The black leather pads across the top of this cloth
"helmet" fitted into precise notches inside the aluminum
shell and served to insure a proper and secure fit. The
orange tag says "date of manufacture" and indicates
precisely when it came off of the assembly line, "VIII-79".
In excellent condition. Virtually the only place with
noticeable (albeit very slight) wear is on the outside of
the ear cups where they have rubbed against the inside of
the helmet. The rubber coating on the communications cord
coming out of the back of the helmet shows none of the usual
Unless you were fortunate enough to acquire your GSh-6A High
Altitude Pressure Helmet in its original carrying case (and
all its original components were still in there!), you
probably need this to complete your Mig pilot rig.
Please note: a Styrofoam head is not included with the
helmet, although we should mention that, if you already have
a similar display head in your collection, you will find
that this cloth helmet will probably fit it perfectly.
