Medal for Valiant Labor, Type 1, Var. |

 |
|
Medal for Valiant Labor, Type 1, Var. 1, #11246, circa mid
to late 1942.
Medallion is in silver and enamels; 34.5 mm wide; weighs
21.0 g not including the suspension and connecting link.
Stamped number sign "N" and engraved serial number on the
reverse. Comes with first version of the Type 1 triangular
suspension device in silver (rather than silver-plated
brass, as the later version). The screw post is in copper,
2.9 mm wide.
In excellent condition, very uncommon for a Type 1 Valiant
Labor Medal of WW2 era. The enamel on the star has only a
few tiny
contact marks that are almost unnoticeable to the naked eye,
no rubbing or significant wear, and shows beautiful luster.
The silver shows beautiful patina on both sides of the
medal. There are no noticeable dings, scratches or edge
knocks, just some microscopic contact marks. The suspension
device is original and complete, including the triangular
back plate and hexagon nut. The screw post is full length,
over 11.5 mm (measured from the back plate), and includes
original screw plate marked "Mondvor". The connecting
link is original and has not been cut. The old, probably
original ribbon shows significant wear but is sound, clean
and overall very attractive.
