"Awards of Soviet Republics", Nikolai Strekalov, Igor Sysolyatin, C 2012, Moscow, "Collector's Books" series.

Hard covered, Russian text, 640 pp, large 11 " x 9" x 1 " format; contains hundreds of color and black & white photographs.

This is the fourth book of the landmark "Collector's Books" reference series and although similar in quality, it far surpasses the previous three in breadth of material it covers. This massive volume is about three times the size of the "Order of the Red Banner" and nearly twice as large as the "Order of the Red Star", the third book of the series.

Although based in part on the much earlier "Order of Soviet Republic" classic by Kutsenko, the work by Sysolyatin and Strekalov is literally light years ahead of the former. The new book provides collectors with the truly comprehensive and modern photo reference guide. It covers not only orders but also medals and badges of all Soviet republics that once had an autonomous award system. The close-up photos are superb and the depth of the narrative is nothing short of amazing. The authors had obviously conducted a tremendous amount of research which resulted in some remarkable discoveries: the book has photos of some of the "republican" awards which are not even mentioned in any previously published literature. Many of the variations and trial versions are also shown for the first time ever. Of special interest to collectors is detailed information on manufacturing, number of issues, and currently known number of awards in private and museum collections. Additionally, the book has very comprehensive lists of recipients often accompanied by award serial numbers.

All in all, this is a fantastic and indispensable reference! Even if you are not planning to acquire any of the rare and expensive orders and medals presented in this guide, this book is a treat to anyone interested in the early Soviet decorations or Soviet history in general.

The book is in brand new condition, wrapped in original plastic cover, but it has acquired mild corner bumps in transit from Russia. Otherwise mint.
