Badge for Voyage to England, Sverdlov, 1953.

Badge for Voyage to England, Sverdlov, 1953.

Brass, enamels; 33.3 mm wide x 24.9 mm tall (measured from the bottom of the wreath to the top of the flagpole); weighs 8.0 g without screw plate. Outstanding quality throughout.

Excellent condition. The enamel is extremely well preserved and shows only minor wear and some barely visible hairline cracks in the white enamel near the upper right corner, not detracting. Details of the cruiser and the wreath are nicely defined. The screw post is full length, over 10 mm measured from its base. Comes with original mint marked screw plate.

This badge was awarded exclusively to the crewmen of the light cruiser Sverdlov which arrived to Great Britain to participate in the naval procession at Spithead honoring the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

A very rare and interesting award relating to both the height of the Cold War and the Queen's Coronation. Coincidentally, this is also the very first Soviet naval badge established after WW2.

/ See Borisov's "Badges of the Armed Forces" fig. 146/.
